02 / THE MAKING

Roofing sheet manufacturing
from coil to custom length

In-house roll forming and cutting
at our Devanahalli manufacturing unit.

A sequence of steel rollers along the roofing sheet manufacturing line
THE ROLL-FORMING LINEProgressive shaping, one stage at a time.

THE PROCESS, EXPLAINED

The coating protects;
the profile gives it shape

The steel manufacturer supplies the coated material. At CHOWDESHWARI, our work is to form the roofing profile and prepare the sheet lengths for your order.

As the steel passes through a sequence of rollers, it is gradually shaped into ribs and valleys. The finished profile adds stiffness and gives rainwater a path down the roof when installed correctly.

Profiled steel passing between the shaped rollers

01 / FORM THE PROFILE

A shape with a purpose

Successive rollers shape the steel into the selected roofing profile. The shape and spacing of the ribs help determine how the sheet performs.

02 / CUT TO LENGTH

Custom-cut roofing sheets

The profiled sheet is cut to the agreed length. Confirm the slope length, overhang, and any end laps with your installer before cutting.

03 / PLAN THE FINISHED ORDER

Every length has a place

A clear cutting list connects your drawings to the order: sheet lengths, quantities, matching accessories, and collection or delivery arrangements.

Coating, grade, and available profiles depend on the selected product. Confirm the material and cutting list before production.

03 / CONFIDENCE IN YOUR PURCHASE

Trust should
come with details

Good advice helps you ask the right questions. Here’s what to look for when choosing your roofing material.

Know the source

Ask for the named brand and product on your quotation and invoice. Check manufacturer identification where applicable.

Know the specification

Compare the same thickness basis, coating, and profile. Two sheets with a similar appearance can have different specifications.

Know the whole order

Discuss accessories, taxes, transport, unloading, and the agreed supply schedule alongside the sheet price.

05 / ROOFING, MADE CLEAR

Know your roof;
choose with confidence

A good roof is a complete system: the sheet, the structure beneath it, the fixings, and the way water leaves it.

We use JSW Colouron+ as the base product in the examples below.

Compare product specifications
01Thickness & steel grade

Always compare the same measurement. BMT means base metal thickness (the steel before its coatings). TCT and TPT describe thickness including the stated coating or paint layers; check the manufacturer’s definition.

For example, JSW Colouron+ lists 0.35–0.60 mm for its 4 ft wider double trapezoidal profile. Confirm the thickness basis and selected steel grade on your quotation. The suitable thickness depends on the profile, support spacing, and design loads.

Ask: “Which thickness basis and steel grade are quoted?”

02Coating & colour finish

Metallic coatings help protect the steel from corrosion. Galvanised steel has a zinc coating; Galvalume uses an aluminium–zinc alloy. Colour-coated products add a paint system over the coated steel.

JSW Colouron+ is pre-painted aluminium–zinc coated steel. Its published coil coating range is 70–200 g/m². That is a range of options: confirm the exact AZ grade and finish for your order and exposure conditions.

Ask: “What is the coating specification for this exact product?”

03Sheet width & actual roof coverage

Overall width and effective cover are different. Part of a sheet overlaps its neighbour. Effective cover is the width used for planning coverage after the specified side lap.

Worked example: JSW Colouron+ with assumed profile dimensions
Overall sheet width3.5 ft
Effective cover after side lap3.25 ft
Cover from 5 sheets across16.25 ft

Assume your quoted JSW Colouron+ profile is 3.5 ft wide with 3.25 ft effective cover. Five sheets then cover 5 × 3.25 = 16.25 ft across. These are illustrative dimensions, not a standard for every Colouron+ profile. Confirm your actual profile and lap before ordering. See JSW Colouron+ specifications ›

Ask: “What cover width and billing unit are you using?”

04Profile, roof slope & supports

For JSW Colouron+, select the profile before finalising your roof layout. Its trapezoidal, tile, and corrugated options have different shapes and thickness ranges. Follow the instructions for your exact profile, roof slope, and support spacing.

Purlins support the sheets. Their spacing and size must suit the selected roof and the building’s loads. Have your designer or engineer confirm the roof structure, especially when planning solar panels or other added loads.

Ask: “Does this profile suit my roof slope and support layout?”

05Fasteners, flashings & rainwater

For a JSW Colouron+ roof, match the fasteners, sealing washers, ridges, and flashings to your selected profile and finish. Gutters and downpipes complete the rainwater system.

Correct laps, fixing positions, and installation are essential. Select accessories with your installer using the guidance for your chosen roofing system.

Ask: “Which accessories and fixings does this roof need?”

06Comfort, care & product warranty

Discuss insulation and ventilation when heat or rain noise matters. Comfort depends on the whole roof assembly as well as the sheet finish.

JSW Colouron+ advertises a 15-year warranty. Check the written terms for your selected variant, including coverage, registration, and exclusions, and follow JSW’s care and installation instructions.

Ask: “What care does this material need, and what does its warranty cover?”

A little clarity
before your quotation

Estimate sheet quantities for one rectangular roof slope or two equal slopes.

Roof coverage planner

Base product: JSW Colouron+. This worked example assumes 3.25 ft effective cover; enter the confirmed cover width for your selected profile.

Across the roof, perpendicular to the sheet length.
Use the actual slope length, including your planned overhang.
JSW Colouron+ example: 3.25 ft after side overlap. Confirm your selected profile’s cover width.
For unequal slopes, calculate each side separately.

This planning estimate assumes one sheet covers the full slope length; it excludes end laps, spare sheets, and cutting waste. Confirm length availability, dimensions, and design with your supplier and installer before ordering.
